Meet Ally Fekaiki: Revolutionizing Employee Wellness in the Remote Work Era

What inspired you to start Juno?

I started Juno out of a personal realization in my tech career: workplace stress is often accepted as the norm, but it shouldn't be. I experienced and saw the impact of inadequate support in the workplace. This led me to rethink employee wellness. Juno was born from the idea of giving employees a voice in their wellbeing, moving away from generic, one-size-fits-all perks to personalized, meaningful support. It's about empowering employees to choose what truly benefits them.

What inspired you to focus on employee wellness, particularly in the context of remote work?

My journey started in the high-pressure environment of tech startups. I personally experienced the toll it can take on one's wellbeing. This experience was a catalyst for me. I realized the traditional workplace, especially in remote settings, often overlooks individual wellness needs. My aim with Juno wasn't just about employee perks; it was about redefining wellness in the modern, increasingly remote workforce.

How has your personal work routine evolved since you started working remotely, and how has this influenced your approach at Juno?

Working remotely has taught me the importance of setting boundaries and creating a work environment that fosters productivity and wellbeing. I've incorporated flexible hours and regular breaks into my routine, which has significantly improved my focus and creativity. This personal experience has reinforced my belief in offering flexible, personalized benefits through Juno.

What challenges have you faced in maintaining a healthy work-life balance while managing a rapidly growing startup remotely?

It's definitely challenging. The line between work and personal life can get blurry. I've had to be deliberate about 'switching off' from work and ensuring I make time for my hobbies and relaxation. This struggle has been a driving force in making Juno a platform that genuinely supports work-life balance for remote workers.

How do you stay connected and maintain a sense of community with your team and peers in a remote work environment?

Communication is key. We use various digital tools to stay connected, not just for work-related discussions but also for casual, social interactions. We've organized virtual coffee breaks and team-building activities. These practices have given me insights into the importance of social wellness for remote teams, something we're passionate about at Juno.

As a leader of a company focused on employee wellness, what personal wellness practices do you find most beneficial?

For me, it's a mix of physical activity and mindfulness practices. I regularly engage in outdoor activities to disconnect from work and clear my mind. Meditation has also been a game-changer for me in managing stress. These practices have influenced the kind of wellness options we offer at Juno.

Finally, what advice would you give to individuals and companies navigating the shift to remote work?

Embrace flexibility and prioritize mental health. Remote work offers incredible opportunities but also poses unique challenges. Individuals should find what works best for their productivity and wellbeing, while companies should listen to their employees' needs and provide support that goes beyond traditional office perks.

What's your favorite city for remote work and why?

Barcelona is my top choice for remote work. Its unique mix of culture, architecture, and a relaxed lifestyle offers the perfect balance for work and leisure. The city's creative energy, coupled with its diverse community, makes it an ideal environment for productivity and networking. Plus, the fantastic climate and scenic views are great for unwinding after work.

What's your go-to airline for remote work travel and why?

Finnair is my preferred airline for remote work travel. The reason I favor them is their excellent mileage system, which allows for accumulating points that can be used to upgrade to business class. This makes long-haul flights more comfortable and conducive to work, ensuring I arrive at my destination refreshed and ready.
