Meet Emrick Donadei: Six Years from Code to Global Impact – The Evolution of a Software Engineer and the Spirit of the Side Hustle

Can you tell us about your initial decision to pursue remote work as a software engineer?

It came like everyone during Covid, my company at the time allowed everyone to work from home. Staying at home for so long is a pain and I was craving to go outside, so I took this more drastic decision of often traveling abroad to get a way better quality of life for a decent price.

How has your role at Google evolved over the years, and what have been some key milestones in your career?

It's all about taking the time to understand the new ecosystem you're onboarding and acquiring ownership and expertise on products. Even when the product is not immediately serving the customers, it's good to keep in mind why you're building and who are your users. A key milestone for me was getting promoted with a transfer to NYC only 1 month ago!

How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance while managing the demands of a job that spans multiple time zones?

Not being on-call helps. And I'm pretty lucky to work in North America with mostly people in the same timezone as me. Some European folks are harder to catch, but scheduling in the morning is often enough.

What advice would you give to someone starting in the tech industry who is interested in remote work?

Good luck, the pool of remote positions is hard, but I would stay flexible and consider contracting/freelancing as a solid alternative as a full-time job.

How has being a part of the Boundra network influenced your journey as a remote worker and your connection with other remote professionals?

I've spent my best recent times with friends I've made from Boundra locations. You're meeting people from a pool of exceptional and ambitious people all the time. Almost an unofficial member's club!

What's your favorite city to work remotely from, and why?

Barcelona has all the advantages of a European city with perfect weather, and it also helping me improve my Spanish.

What has been the best travel spot you’ve discovered during your remote work travels?

I guess I'm missing driving the Icefields Parkway road in Alberta, Canada after doing a full day of snowboarding in front of the beautiful Lake Louise.

What's your go-to airline for remote work travel and why?

I can't always take it, but Air France is just all-around better than others. Better food, better seating, better service.
